The Pasadena Chalk Festival: 2012

The Pasadena Chalk Festival is an annual art event free and open to the public.  Guests come to see artists from all over Southern California at work, spending two days on the ground, creating spectacular, detailed and colorful chalk art murals on the cement that is normally walked upon.  The beauty of the event is the act of sacrifice performed by each artist, dedicating to creating their chalk mural that is later to be washed away.  LA Painted Lady walked through the chalk museum, taking photos of, and with, her favorite chalk murals.

The Foreteller of Dreams

LA Painted Lady plays dress up for NOCHE COSMICA a monthly event in LA where creative souls gather to discuss all things Occult:

Astronomy, Astrology, Tarot, Magic, Healing Arts, Dreams and more!

I dreamnt I was in a land filled with mist and fog so thick I couldn't see.  I had to feel with my feet and my hands to know where I was...

Suddenly the mist began to clear, and a Gypsy woman appeared, welcoming me to sit beside her.  She took my hand into her wise brown hands and offered to do a reading into my future...
She smiled into the creases of my palms and sang a little song under her breath...
Then without a word she placed a mirror before me and asked me to speak affirmations into my own reflection as she sang. I looked into the Mirror and began to speak Affirmations:
I am beautiful.
Soy bella.
I am Powerful.
I am Intuitive.
Soy Artista.
I am Creative.
I am Passionate.
Soy yo...!
And I fell into a trance while she sang and I spoke...
And then I woke from my dream laughing and smiling, smiling and laughing, and the Fortune Teller's song hummed in my memory all day long...

"I paint My Own Reality"

    -Frida Kahlo

     IN WONDERLAND

was a recent art exhibit at the LACMA featuring the works of Women Surrealist Artists who through their art explored past the impossible to discover the sensitivity, creativity and vivid colors of their inner worlds.  LA Painted Lady was inspired by these women artists of the United States and Mexico who followed their passions, dreams, visions and emotions to create from that unique place.  What does it mean to be an Artist?  A woman Artist?  A Surrealist?  Artists featured in this exhibit pushed past boundaries to create something truely new.

LA Painted Lady's costume was inspired by two works of art, "Diego y yo" by Frida Kahlo, and a painting by Sylvia Fein:

Several of Frida Kahlo's works were on display,  including "Las Dos Fridas."

Las Tres Fridas

LA Painted Lady posed with the painting as the third Frida.

At the exhibit, she met a Mother and Daughter similarly inspired by Frida Kahlo's fashion:
